Cool Signing Kids

SeeMeTalking Cool Signing Kids

Our SeeMeTalking Cool Signing Kids came to life after a very long journey of searching for the right ASL illustrations that would be appealing to children of pre-K and elementary age. The best choice was to create our very own characters.
Please meet Mona and Max.

MonaandMax
Mona and Max will help you and your children learn American Sign Language vocabulary. In our Signing Pretzel Vol 2, they show you how to sign animals in ASL.
Here is a message from Mona and Max to all signing kids:
“Hi there. Keep up signing. ASL is a Cool Langauge and we would love to see photos of you do your favorite animal signs. Send them to us and we will post them on the SeeMeTalking Cool Signing Kids photo gallery. Enjoy the Signing Pretzels!”

Sign Language (ASL) Dictionary

If you are right handed, your dominant hand is the right hand and your left hand is the passive hand. If you are left handed, your dominant hand is your left hand.
The sign illustrations on the Signing Pretzels were done with right hand as dominant hand – since we as producers are right handed. But not to worry, if you are left handed, just do the mirror image.

A

B

BEAR
Cross your arms and claw your chest.
Memory bridge: Bear hug or the claws of the Bear scratching.
BEE
Make an F handshape with your dominant hand that comes to your cheek, then make a B handshape with the same hand and imitate brushing the bee away.
Memory bridge: brush the bee out of your face
BIRD
Make a G handshape with your dominant hand in front of your mouth, open close the index finger and thumb.
Memory bridge: birds beak opening and closing like it is singing
BUTTERFLY
Open palms facing you, cross hands over, lock thumbs together and move like a butterfly

C

CAT
Place the open F-handshape at the corner of your mouth and while moving your hand out close the thumb and index finger to form the F-handshape.
Memory bridge: cat’s whiskers
COW
Place the thumbs of the Y-handshapes on your temples and twist them forth and back several times. 1 hand or both hands are okay. For children it is always nice to do both hands since they can picture the cow better this way.
Memory bridge: cows horns

D

DOG
With your closed 5 hand pat your leg several times and or snap your fingers.
Memory bridge: calling a dog to your side.
DUCK
Place the dominant hand at your mouth, palm facing down. Open and close the index and middle fingers on the thumb.
Memory bridge: a duck’s beak (beak’s of ducks are broader than of birds)

E

ELEPHANT
Move the B-handshape of your dominant hand from nose in an outline of an elephants trunk downward.
Memory bridge: an elephant’s trunk

F

FOX
With the dominant S-handshape under your chin, quickly flick out the index and middle finger twice.
Memory Bridge: a frog’s legs hopping under your chin

Place the dominant C-handshape at your neck and outline the long neck of a giraffe by moving the dominant hand upward.
Memory Bridge: the long neck of a giraffe

Memory Bridge: the wide mouth of a hippo with its four prominent
HORSE

M

MONKEY
With both hands as clawed 5 handshapes scratch on the sides of your chest.

The Story

The Story behind the Signing Pretzel™

We are so very excited to share with you our very first ASL signing product.
By "We" I mean, Birgit, creator of SeeMeTalking LLC, her husband Markus who did all the sign illustrations and was in charge of the production proccess and our 3 signing children who had the fun of testing many different versions of the Pretzel.
Birgit, after teaching ASL for many years in pre-K and elementary school, realized that there are not a lot of ASL products out there which are hands-on and fun for older kids to play with. The idea of a matching game came to our mind and was explored until we finally decided to creating the Signing Pretzel, a hands-on, self-check ASL signing game for kids of ages 3 and up.
It took us many exciting months of hard work: creating the right sign illustrations that appeal to children of pre-K and elementary school age, picking a cool name for our product, design the outline for the Pretzel, so it would be easy for kids to use and last but not least having the Pretzel manufactured. It was one big moment for us to get 18 packages (a total weight of 700 pounds!) delivered to our door mid October 08.
I hope you and your children will enjoy the Pretzels.
We would love to hear your comments, post your signing photos on our webpage.

Happy Signing,
Birgit & Family
